Kagan Versus Palin

There on my AOL Screen this morning was the announcement that Solicitor General Elena Kagan, the former Dean of the Harvard Law School, had been nominated to be Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Right underneath the article was the latest gossip on the former Alaska Republican Governor, Sarah Palin. What a contrast in personalities.

One, a former beauty queen and small town mayor turned Governor, came close to becoming Vice President of the United States. The other, a graduate of Princeton, Oxford, and Harvard Law School is being considered for a spot on the Supreme Court. How you even manage to put these two women on the same page of news is a mystery to me. The one thing that is certain though is that when Katie Couric asks the latest Supreme Court nominee to name a few important decisions by the Court, there might actually be a real answer this time. It’s too bad that in this day and age, a competent answer just won’t be newsworthy.
